Classroom instruction

All students have different learning styles, and as a teacher it is important that we cater to each and every one of them. When instructing these individuals, all professors need to develop their own way of teaching so that the curriculum will encompass all styles of learning. An example of this would be: when teaching a class on Gothic Literature, it is not only important for the students to read the required novels; but for them to also watch different films associated with the novels. The professor also needs to give adequate back ground about the authors of the novels and the events that were taking place during the actual writings of the novel. By offering different ways to learn the same information, all students are then given an equal opportunity to fully learn and develop. As adult professors we are teaching and molding each adult learner to the best of our abilities. These skills will not only help them meet the requirements for a degree but will also need to be well enough embedded within them, that they continue to grow and learn throughout their life.

  2. Hi Jennifer!
I agree with you in the importance of facilitators offering multiple teaching methods to learners. It is vital that we not only cater to learners’ preferences, but expose them to both preferred and non-preferred methods to enable opportunities for growth and development. It might be challenging, but as you said, it is important that we offer opportunities for learners to gain and/or strengthen skills both in and outside of the classroom. It’s a task that I’m continuously striving to achieve!
    Thanks for sharing your blog!

  3. I concur with all of the above! I have experienced multiple learning methods in this class! Including my infamous (non-preferred) technological methods! And yes, it was very challenging to me, but it was also very rewarding! When the learning experience is presented in a "non-threatening" environment, it makes it more appealing. When the word technology was mentioned before, I froze-up. Now I say, "what do I have an opportunity to learn now?" ; )
